The best time to introduce breast to your baby is immediately after birth when baby tend to be the most alert and responsive.
After a vaginal delivery, as Tiller mentions, if there are no complications, start breast feeding right away.
If you've had a Cesarean section, you may have to wait until surgery and than try to breastfeed within the first hour.
Don't panic or stress if your baby is not ready to accept breast within first hour as they shouldn't need much nourishment for the first few days due to stores of calories and fluid that make it unnecessary for them to eat much early on.
